Whispers on the 17th Latitude: Vietnam

The Ben Hai River, which almost coincides with the 17th parallel (it runs slightly north of it), was considered the border between North and South Vietnam. This demarcation line divided the country between 1954 and 1975. These 21 years of division, which barely measure a generation, bequeathed deep scars in the Vietnamese psyche even today, although the nation has been united for 42 years, which measures almost two generations. The physical demarcation line is long gone but the psychological demarcation still delineates the two regions from one another.

These works create an imaginary conversation between plants and weeds that are identified as witnesses, residing on the north and south side of the Bén Hâi River.
